Topo Gigio & Friends PEGDVD4047 Every week America tuned into the Ed Sullivan Show and every week the TV audience was charmed by the antics of the adorable mouse, Topo Gigio. Created by a highly talented troupe of puppeteers, it took four people to bring the 10 inch-tall character to life, three to manipulate him and one to create his sweet voice. Over 50 times, the little Italian mouse would appear on stage and greet Ed with a sugary 'Hello Eddie'. Topo was also quite the lover, often seen cavorting with his girlfriend Rosie, but the most enduring image is the way in which he ended his weekly visits, literally crooning to Ed, 'Eddie, keesa me goo'night'. |

Muppets Magic PEGDVD4048 Long before America had come to appreciate the talents of Jim Henson and his brilliant creations The Muppets, Ed Sullivan had the foresight to identify with Henson's enormous creativity and provide him an opportunity to introduce his unique characters to the American public. With Henson's first appearance on the 18th September 1966, The Muppets began to capture America's imagination, breaking down old conceptions of what could be done with puppetry, challenging the audience to embrace the creatures as living, thinking beings. Not only does this programme introduce us to Kermit the Frog, we can also see the beginnings of other Henson characters we've all come to know and love including reindeer discussing Christmas, a computer eating monster and many many more. The charm and warmth that captured the hearts of children and adults alike when these inventive segments first aired, are just as powerful and compelling today. |
